“See Naples in six hours”. The judges of Masterchef Australia came yesterday in the capital of Campania. From the Veiled Christ to the Pizza at the Umberto Restaurant, together with Massimo Di Porzio, they accompanied their visit with two excellent wines!
The famous judges of Masterchef Australia: Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris arrived on Sunday afternoon in Naples for a pleasure visit.
A gastronomic and cultural tour of the city in the company of two exceptional guides Massimo Di Porzio and Chris Young of the “Cafe Di Stasio” in Melbourne.
First stop, the centenarian Pizzeria Mattozzi in Piazza Carità where Lello and Paolo Surace gave the Australian chefs a really good pizza, followed by a taste of a fried pizza made by Gennaro Luciano from Pizzeria Port’Alba.
The pizza amazed its special patrons with the ‘montanara’ in both versions: fried and baked.
After the photos with the fans, the day continued towards the decumani, with a visit to San Lorenzo Maggiore and the suggestive Naples Underground. Sweet stop for a babà, by “Salvatore Capparelli”, then reach the Veiled Christ, taste the ‘ministerial’ from Scaturchio and a sfogliatella ending with coffee at Gran Caffè Gambrinus.
The gastronomic tour continued with an evening aperitif at the “Barcadero” in Borgo Marinari. The judges had dinner at the Ristorante Storico Umberto opting for a salad with the four Campania tomatoes, the “Pizza scarpariello”, and the Genovese.
The latter, in particular, went in combination with the Tresinus wine of the San Giovanni farm and Marisa Cuomo’s Furore Rosso. The evening ended with a toast ‘al’ nucillo ‘and with the promise to bring a little’ of Naples in the Australian format.
